MotorSlide Calculator

The MotorSlide CalculatorTM is perfect for the salesperson on the road, at the sales counter or any time when a computer is not available. In a few simple steps, a vendor can calculate the approximate energy cost to operate a motor in the 1 HP to 200 HP range at either 3,000 or 8,000 operating hours per year. The reverse side calculates the possible annual energy savings when two motors are compared. Smart Equipment Choices Program

The Point-of-Purchase (POP) display is a self-contained information piece that illustrates the difference between a motor’s annual operating costs versus the initial purchase price. It is designed to highlight the long-term operating costs to run a 40 hp motor. Most motor purchasers under estimate the operating cost of their motors and are surprised to discover how high the operating cost can be. This creates an opportunity for the motor vendor to educate the motor purchaser on the true savings opportunities available by purchasing a NEMA Premium®motor. The reverse side of the card includes additional examples of the potential savings from NEMA Premium® motors. The card is lightweight and is also available as a bill stuffer.

MotorMaster+ Software

Enrolled vendors can receive MotorMaster+ Software FREE! Developed by the U.S. Department of Energy, MotorMaster+ Software is a database of over 25,000 motors. It enables motor vendors to illustrate energy savings under three scenarios:
  • The purchase of a NEMA Premium®versus an EPAct motor;
  • The purchase of a NEMA Premium®versus a motor repair; and
  • The purchase of a NEMA Premium®in a retrofit scenario.

MotorMaster+ calculates yearly energy savings, performs payback analysis, and can be used to document and track a customer’s motor inventory.

Motor Decisions Matter (MDM) is a national campaign encouraging the use of sound motor management and planning as a tool to cut motor energy costs and increase productivity. The campaign is sponsored by a consortium of motor industry manufacturers and service centers, trade associations, electric utilities and government agencies.

The campaign highlights motor management as a business opportunity and encourages customers to work through local motor professionals to develop motor management plans. By utilizing existing motor efficiency tools and resources, the campaign helps industrial and commercial customers use life-cycle costing methods to determine whether motors should be repaired or replaced before they fail and when to install premium-efficiency motors.

The campaign encourages commercial and industrial customers to develop a motor plan with the assistance of their local distributor, repair center or utility representative. A motor plan addresses common motor decisions before they become a crisis and ensures motor availability, enhanced productivity, and lower energy costs. The Department of Energy estimates that greater attention to motor system management can reduce energy costs by a dramatic 18 percent.

Motor Planning Kit

The Motor Planning Kit is a 15-page booklet designed to be a guide to developing a motor management plan. Motor purchasers will learn the steps necessary to get started with a plan and why a plan is necessary. This document creates an excellent opportunity for a motor vendor to become a valued resource to a motor purchaser by guiding the purchaser through the organization process and assisting in the creation of a motor management plan. In the process, the motor vendor will become intimately familiar with the purchaser’s inventory, spare motor requirements and any special circumstances (unusual operating environment or hours of operation, etc.) the motor purchaser may have.
